Men’s Tennis Drops Match to No. 7 LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. – The No. 34 Ole Miss men's tennis team fell, 4-3, to No. 7 LSU in its fourth conference matchup on Sunday afternoon at the LSU Tennis Complex.
LSU was up three to one in the match, and it was coming down to court six, where Ole Miss's Benjamin Martin was trying to fend off Sasa Markovic from securing a clinching point.
After trading blows in the first two sets, the match came down to a third set, in which Markovic got out to a 5-2 lead. Martin couldn't recover as Markovic went on to win the set and clinch the match for the Tigers.
Ole Miss (13-3, 1-3 SEC) fell behind early, as LSU (13-2, 2-1 SEC) secured the doubles point. In singles, LSU continued to ride its momentum quickly, winning two straight singles courts to go up, 3-0.
Noah Schlagenhauf put up the first match point for the Rebels after he defeated Enzo Kohlmann, 6-3, 7-6 (7-5), before LSU would go on to clinch the match.
The other two match points for the Rebels came from Pietro Pampanin, who defeated No. 102 Andrej Loncarevic (LSU) 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, and Vlado Jankanj, who beat Alessio Vasquez, 2-6, 7-6 (7-2), 6-4.
Ole Miss men's tennis will return to Oxford, Mississippi, to take on No. 37 Vanderbilt on Sunday, March 8, at 1 p.m., with the match taking place at the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Center.
