Volleyball Falls to Vanderbilt
10/4/2026 | Volleyball
OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss volleyball program saw its undefeated SEC start come to an end, falling short against Vanderbilt, 3-0, on Sunday afternoon at the Gillom Athletics Performance Center.
The Rebels (8-6, 2-1 SEC) were unable to get momentum against the nearly nationally ranked Commodores (11-2, 2-2 SEC). Jorda Crook led the Rebels with nine kills, while Cameron Bradley added 17 digs.
In the opening frame, Vanderbilt jumped out to an early 4-1 lead and did not look back. Ole Miss began to settle in, responding with kills from Keirstyn Carlton and Crook to cut the deficit to one. The Rebels continued to battle, forcing multiple ties and lead changes behind a kill from Shayla Meyer and a block assist from Meyer and Carly Paugh. Vanderbilt would eventually create some separation, using a 5-1 run to take a 15-11 advantage into the media timeout. Out of the break, the Commodores would extend their lead to nine at 21-12 and would go on to take the opening set 25-16.
After the break, the second set opened with a back-and-forth battle as neither the Rebels nor Commodores could gain a clear advantage. Melia Johnson came alive for Ole Miss, recording four kills before the media timeout as the Rebels stayed within striking distance of Vanderbilt who held a one-point advantage, 15-14, heading into the media break. Following the timeout, the Commodores extended their lead to 18-15, forcing an Ole Miss timeout. Out of the break, the Rebels responded with a crucial kill from Meyer to cut the deficit to two. However, Vanderbilt regained momentum late in the set, pulling away to secure a 25-20 victory.
The third set followed a similar script, with Ole Miss and Vanderbilt battling back and forth early. The Rebels found early momentum, building an 8-5 advantage behind a kill from Meyer and an ace from Vivianna Samaniego. Vanderbilt responded with a rally of its own, quickly tying the set at 10-10 and surging into a 15-13 lead into the technical timeout. Following the break, the Commodores maintained control, closing the set on a 5-2 run to secure a 25-17 victory and complete the sweep.
Ole Miss is set to hit the road for a pair of matchups against ranked opponents, beginning with a Friday night clash at No. 11 Tennessee. The match is set for 5:30 p.m. CT and will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
