Volleyball Cruises Past Missouri in SEC Showdown

10/2/2026 | Volleyball

OXFORD, Miss. – The Ole Miss volleyball team secured a four-set victory over Missouri, highlighted by a milestone performance from Jorda Crook, who recorded the 1,000th kill of her career. The Rebels battled throughout the match before closing out the fourth set, 25-20, to seal the win.

After nearly a month on the road, the Ole Miss Rebels (8-5, 2-0 SEC) were back in action at the Gillom Athletics Performance Center, welcoming the Missouri Tigers (8-6, 1-1 SEC) in an SEC showdown that delivered a hard-fought battle from start to finish.

In the first set, both teams came out firing offensively, hitting above .300 to open the match as each side looked to establish an early rhythm. After a back-and-forth start, the Rebels began to create separation, using a balanced offensive attack to build an 11-7 advantage. Melia Johnson led the charge with six kills in the opening frame, helping Ole Miss maintain control as the set progressed. The Rebels stretched their lead to 22-17 following a kill from Shayla Meyer, forcing the Tigers to use a timeout. The break did little to slow the Ole Miss attack, as the Rebels continued to apply pressure down the stretch. Johnson put the finishing touches on the opening set with a kill to secure a 25-20 victory and give Ole Miss an early 1-0 advantage in the match.

Both teams traded blows early in the second set, with neither side able to create much separation. Five early kills from Johnson helped keep the Rebels within striking distance, including back-to-back contributions that trimmed the deficit to 14-13 and 15-14. Ole Miss continued to battle and eventually pulled even at 17-17 on a kill from Meyer. From there, the Rebels took control, using a late surge to grab a 21-19 advantage. A kill from Keirstyn Carlton helped Ole Miss maintain the momentum, as the Rebels pushed their lead to 23-20. Missouri attempted to answer late, but Ole Miss held off the Tigers before Crook delivered the set-clinching kill to secure a 25-22 victory and give the Rebels a 2-0 lead in the match.

Much like the opening two sets, the third frame remained tightly contested early, with the two sides battling to a 6-6 tie. The Tigers were the first to create separation, taking a 10-7 advantage before a kill from Carlton helped the Rebels pull back within one at 11-10. Missouri began to take control midway through the set, stretching its advantage to 20-13. Ole Miss refused to go quietly, responding with a 3-0 run capped by an ace from Ryea Jackson to cut the deficit to 20-16. The Rebels continued to battle down the stretch, but the Tigers held off the comeback and took the third set, 25-20, to force a fourth.

Ole Miss came out strong in the fourth set, but Missouri quickly responded as the two sides traded points early. Strong serving from Meyer and Jackson helped the Rebels maintain control, as Ole Miss carried a 15-13 advantage into the media timeout. The Tigers battled back following the break to even the set at 16-16, but Meyer answered with back-to-back kills to put the Rebels back in front, 18-16. Ole Miss continued to build on that momentum, using a 7-2 run to stretch its advantage to 23-18, capped by an ace from Meyer. Missouri made one final push to cut the lead to 23-20, but the Rebels responded with the final two points of the night to take the fourth set, 25-20. With the victory, Ole Miss closed out the match in four sets, securing a 3-1 win over the Tigers and moving to 2-0 in SEC play.

Ole Miss will be back in action on Sunday, Oct. 4, to continue SEC play, hosting Vanderbilt at the Gillom Athletics Performance Center. First serve is set for 2 p.m. CT and will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
