La Sasso Co-leader after 36, No. 3 Men’s Golf Sits 8th at NCAA Championships

CARLSBAD, Calif. – The No. 3 Ole Miss men’s golf team sits in 8th place after 36 holes at the NCAA Championships. The Rebels carded a team score of (287, -1) on Saturday at Omni La Costa’s North Course. Junior Michael La Sasso co-leads the field at nine-under after two rounds.
La Sasso was tremendous again for Ole Miss carding a round of five-under 67. He got off to a fast start, picking up an eagle on the par 5 second. La Sasso would nearly hole out from the fairway on four, picking up another stroke to get to three-under.
He would card another circle on six, and birdied nine to shoot five-under 31 on his front side.
La Sasso faltered a little to start the second half, carding three straight bogeys on 12, 13 and 14. He remained poised though, and got two shots back with birdies on 15 and 16.
He stepped to the par 5 18th and delivered a drive that drifted slightly right, finding the first cut. La Sasso had 280 yards into the green with a stiff wind in his face. He elected to go with three wood and blistered one into the air that landed 20 feet from the cup. La Sasso would lag his eagle putt to tap in length and finished off his second round with a birdie.

Cohen Trolio turned in a solid day of one-under 71 in round two at Omni La Costa. Trolio was the first player off at 6:30 a.m. local time and carded four birdies across his first nine. He shot even par on the back and sits at one-over for the championship.
Tom Fischer, Cameron Tankersley and Kye Meeks battled a tough second nine on day two. As the morning faded, the greens firmed, and the wind stiffened making scoring conditions difficult coming in.
The one-under team score marks the 25th round in red figures on the season for Ole Miss.
The Rebels will tee it up beginning at 9:25 a.m. CT tomorrow in round three. The field will be cut to 15 teams after the third round of stroke play.
