3/7/2025 | Women's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. – Ole Miss women's tennis secured their second consecutive conference win with a 4-2 victory over in-state rival No. 57 Mississippi State, on Friday evening.
The Rebels (9-4, 2-2 SEC) handed the Bulldogs (9-4, 0-4 SEC) their first loss at home this season, and tallied their seventh straight victory in the series against Mississippi State. The 4-2 victory improves the Rebels to a 21-2 overall record against the Bulldogs under head coach Mark Beyers.
Doubles began with a bang, after No. 50 Anaëlle Leclercq-Ficher and Ludmila Kareisová defeated Gianna Oboniye and Athina Pitta, 6-2. With pressure on, courts two and three were both pushed into a tiebreaker. Brooklyn Olson and Emily Welker increased their stat line by securing the doubles point advantage for the Rebels. The pair took down Emma Cohen and Alessia Tagliente, 7-6 (7-4).
The Rebels kept the momentum going into singles, with two courts finishing in straight sets. Welker recorded her first dual singles victory as a Rebel. The newcomer defeated Tagliente in the second slot, 6-0, 6-1, to put the Rebels ahead by two.
Freshman phenom Alice Soulié took the court in her sixth dual appearance in a Rebel uniform and earned her sixth straight win. All her wins have come in straight sets, as the French native is the second player on Beyers' active squad to begin her dual career 6-0, joining teammate Emma Kette. Kette also won each of her six matches in straight sets. Soulié, a court four regular, took down Athina Pitta, 6-3, 6-3.
After a response from the Bulldogs, two courts remained to be played out. Both Kareisová and Rachel Krzyzak on courts one and five were sent into a forced third set. Due to a disqualification, senior Kareisová came out on top for her first win on court one this season, ending the match with a Rebel victory. After the disqualification, Kareisová claimed a 6-7 (7-9), 6-2, 4-5, score advantage.
Up next, the Rebels will journey to Tuscaloosa, Ala., in a battle against No. 18 Alabama on March 9 at 11 a.m.
