Men’s Tennis Set to Host No. 21 Alabama and South Carolina

OXFORD, Miss - The No. 51 Ole Miss Rebels will welcome the No. 21 Alabama Crimson Tide and the South Carolina Gamecocks to Oxford for two SEC matchups this week. 
 
The Rebels (10-3, 1-2 SEC) will first square off against the Crimson Tide (10-3, 2-2 SEC) on Thursday, March 6 at 3:00 p.m. CT at the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Center for a midweek matchup. Ole Miss will then turn around and play host to the Gamecocks (8-4, 2-1 SEC) on Saturday, March 8 at 1:00 p.m. CT for an afternoon showdown. 
 
Live scoring and live video for the matches will be available to the public. Links to both can be found above, as well as on the Ole Miss men's tennis schedule page. 
 
THE REBELS 
Matthieu Chambonniere (Fr.) - Paris, Île-de-France
-Earned SEC Freshman of the Week honors on March 5
-Holds a 17-4  overall record on the singles courts and has tallied 13 doubles wins on the season
-Defeated LSU's Brock Anderson, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 to clinch the Rebels first SEC win of the 2025 season
-Named the Houndstooth Draw doubles champions at the SEC Challenge with doubles partner Benjamin Martin in the fall
 
Marcel Kamrowski (Jr.) - Gdańsk, Poland
-Junior transfer from Middle Tennessee State
-Defeated LSU's Alessio Vasquez 6-3, 6-4 to help the Rebel's defeat the Tigers and clinch their first SEC win of the season
-Went 2-0 in his Ole Miss debut against Tulane 
-Defeated Asaf Friedler and Vincent Vohl, 6-4, with partner Kai Milburn to tally his first doubles win as a Rebel
 
Loan Lestir (Fr.) - Lille, France
-Has tallied 10 singles wins this season
-Made his collegiate debut against Memphis and clinched the match point for Ole Miss after defeating Michael Kouame, 6-3, 6-7, 6-3
-Named SEC Freshman of the Week on Jan. 22
-Secured a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 win over Pol del Castillo from Georgia Southern to add a singles point to the board for the Rebels
 
Benjamin Martin (Fr.) - Nort-sur-Erdre, France
-Has captured nine singles wins in the 2024-25 season
-Named the Houndstooth Draw doubles champions at the SEC Challenge with partner Matthieu Chambonniere
-Earned an impressive 7-6 (7-5), 5-7, 10-8 win over Nebraska's Roni Hietaranta 
-Was one of five Rebels to represent Ole Miss at the ITA Southern Regional in the fall  
 
Kai Milburn (Fr.) - Queenstown, New Zealand 
-Boasts a 5-1 record on the singles court 
-Defeated Asaf Friedler and Vincent Vohl 6-4 with partner Marcel Kamrowski to earn his first doubles win as a Rebel 
-Arrived to Oxford in January to compete with the Rebels in the spring
-Defeated North Alabama's Satoru Nakajima 7-6 (7-2), 7-5 to contribute to the Rebels' sweep over the Lions 
 
Noah Schlagenhauf (Jr.) - Nuertingen, Germany
-Holds a 16-8 record on the singles court in his junior season campaign 
-Has tallied eight doubles wins in the 2025 season
-Advanced to the qualifying round of the ITA-All Americans in the fall
-Defeated No. 84 Dimitris Paliouras, 6-4, 6-4, in win over Georgia Southern
 
Isac Strömberg (Jr.) - Stockholm, Sweden
-Defeated Adrian Contreras (EKU), 6-3, 6-1, to open the 2025 spring season
-Bested Alabama's No. 62 Andrii Zimnokh, 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 in the fall season to earn his first ranked win of the 2024-25 season
-Undefeated on court two in dual singles matches, holding a 3-0 record
-Holds an 11-9 singles record in the spring campaign 
 
Gordon Whitwell (Jr.) - Oxford, Mississippi 
-Defeated Ryan Kitchin and Adrian Contreras (EKU) 6-2 with partner Isac Strömberg to open junior year spring season
-Secured his first singles win of the spring season over Eastern Kentucky's Darko Kolevski, 6-1, 6-4
-Has secured three wins on the doubles courts with partner Isac Strömberg
-Advanced to the doubles round of 16 at the ITA Southern Regional in the fall season
 
TAMED THE TIGERS
The Ole Miss mens tennis team snagged their first SEC win of their spring campaign after defeating the LSU Tigers in a gritty 4-3 match. After dropping the doubles point and needing four wins on the singles court Schlagenhauf, Kamrowski, and Loan earned three straight set wins over their opponents to tie the match up. It all came down to court six where Chambonniere squared off against LSU's Brock Anderson. The freshman mounted an electric comeback after dropping set one, coming out victorious over LSU's student athlete, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, to clinch the first match of the day for Ole Miss. 
 
RANKED WIN 
The Rebels squared off against North Alabama, securing an impressive 4-0 win over the ranked Lions to go undefeated on the day.  
 
Schlagenhauf and Lestir earned a 6-3 win on court three over North Alabama's Lachlan Brain and Samuel Dominguez Balfour to secure the Rebels' first victory on the doubles court. On court two, the freshman french duo of Martin and Chambonniere dominated over their opponents, 6-3, to clinch the doubles point for Ole Miss. Stromberg, Chambonniere, and Milburn secured wins on the singles wins to tally the Rebel's first ranked win of the year and move their overall record to 10-3 (1-2 SEC) on the season. 
 
CLUTCH FACTOR
After mounting an electric comeback singles victory against LSU last week, Matthieu Chambonniere has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday. This accolade marks Chambonniere's first SEC honor in his young collegiate career as a Rebel. Chambonniere clinched the match over LSU on Saturday to secure the Rebels' first SEC win of the season. 
 
The Rebels and Tigers were tied 3-3, as it all came down to the final match of the day on court five where Chambonniere was competing against LSU's Brock Anderson. After dropping the first set, Chambonniere showed his clutch factor and mounted the comeback over LSU's student-athlete in a three set 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 match to clinch the win for Ole Miss. Chambonniere leads the way for Ole Miss in singles and doubles wins this season, boasting 16 on the singles court, and 13 on the doubles courts.
 
TEAM PROFILE: ALABAMA 
The No. 21 Crimson Tide are led by head coach George Husack. Alabama has a 10-3 (2-2 SEC) record in the 2025 season and most recently defeated Vanderbilt 4-0. The Tide has three ranked singles players, and three ranked doubles pairs. The 2024 Spring NCAA Singles Champion and No. 17 ranked Filip Planinsek leads the way for Alabama on the singles court, boasting a 10-0 record. The No. 57 ranked duo of Damien Nezar and Andrii Zimnokh hold the best record for the Tide on the doubles court, tallying a 9-3 record. 
 
TEAM PROFILE: SOUTH CAROLINA 
Josh Goffi is in his 14th season at the helm of the Gamecocks men's tennis program. South Carolina is currently 8-4 (2-1 SEC) and are coming off of a 2-4 loss to Kentucky. The Gamecocks are led by Lucas da Silva on the singles court. South Carolina has three ranked singles players, and a top 30 ranked doubles pair. Leading the way in wins on the single's courts for the Gamecocks is da Silva who holds an 18-10 record. As for doubles, the No. 26 duo of da Silva and Connor Thomson boast a 4-1 record on the doubles court. 
 
PROMOTIONS THIS WEEKEND
Ole Miss will be playing outside on its home courts, as weather is supposed to be beautiful at the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Facility. At the matchup against the Crimson Tide on Thursday there will be a phone wallet giveaway. On Saturday, come enjoy tennis and tacos while cheering on the Rebels, as free tacos will be given away during the matchup. 
 
Fans are now permitted to bring personal coolers with a maximum size of 20 quarts and no glass bottles. Age verification screening will be instituted at entry for fans who bring coolers with alcohol. Concessions will not be offered at tennis matches.
