Men’s Tennis Mounts Comeback to Defeat No. 21 Alabama

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team welcomed No.21 Alabama to the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis center on Thursday afternoon for a midweek matchup, picking up a 4-3 victory. After dropping the doubles point, Ole Miss (10-3, 1-3 SEC) went to work in singles play and mounted a comeback over the Crimson Tide (10-4, 2-3 SEC).
Going into singles down one, Loan Lestir found his groove early and never looked back on court four. The Freshman dominated Alabama's Matic Kriznik 6-3, 6-4 to put the Rebels on the board.
Matthieu Chambonniere squared off against Carlos Gimenez Perez on court six. The Paris, France native did what he does best and secured an electric 6-2, 6-4 win over his opponent to tie things up in Oxford.
Rebel veteran Isac Strömberg stayed patient in his three set match against Andrii Zimnokh. After dropping the second set, Stromberg captured the comeback 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 to put the Rebels up for the first time on the day 3-2.
It all came down to courts five and two. Ultimately, Benjamin Martin clinched the match for Ole Miss on court five over Alabama's student-athlete. Despite dropping his first set, Martin stayed competitive and earned a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 comeback to clinch the 4-3 victory over the No. 21 Crimson Tide.
Ole Miss will be back in action on Saturday, March 8, where they will host the South Carolina Gamecocks at the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Center at 1:00 p.m. CT.
