Women’s Tennis Drops Match Against No. 16 Vanderbilt
3/30/2025 | Women's Tennis
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women's tennis fell short in a tough matchup, 5-2, against No. 16 Vanderbilt at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center on Sunday.
The Rebels (11-9, 4-7 SEC) held their own against the Commodores (15-4, 8-3 SEC) lineup, staying tight in doubles and forcing three superset tie-breaks in singles.
Ludmila Kareisová notched her 10th dual singles victory of the year after defeating No. 56 Valeria Ray. This marks the second time in her career to hit double digits, since the 2022-2023 season. It's also her third ranked win of the 2024-25 season.
In doubles, Alice Soulié and Emily Welker continued their winning streak, with a final score of 6-3 against Amy Stevens and Sonya Macavei. The duo have won their past three matchups and hold a 4-1 record on court three. Ultimately, the Commodores pulled ahead on the other courts to claim the doubles point.
All six Rebels faced sturdy matchups on their respective courts, with two Rebels earning a first set advantage. Kareisová continued to put in work through a nail-biter but dropped her second set to force a superset tie-break. Through a back-and-forth rally between the Rebel and Commodore, Kareisová emerged victorious. The senior defeated No. 56 Ray, 6-2, 5-7 (10-7).
A freshman on fire, Soulié soared through set one against Trinetra Vijayakumar, 6-4. In a battle between freshmen, a tie break was forced for set two, to which the Commodore came out on top. Another superset on the line, Soulié took an early lead through the first five points. Although a comeback was attempted, Soulié held her own and notched yet another win, 6-4, 6-7 (7-9) (10-5).
With her win, Soulié improved to 9-3 on the season.
Ultimately, the Rebels fell on four different courts that secured the match for the Commodores.
Up next, the Rebels will stay in Oxford to host Oklahoma on Friday, April 4 at 4 p.m. The Rebels will also welcome Arkansas on Sunday for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
