Women’s Tennis Secures Road Win at No. 58 Missouri
3/28/2025 | Women's Tennis
COLUMBIA, Mo. – Ole Miss women's tennis earned a second conference road win in a row, this time against No. 58 Missouri, 6-1, in Columbia on Friday afternoon.
With the win, head coach Mark Beyers remained undefeated against Missouri at the helm of Ole Miss (11-8, 4-6 SEC). Beyers and the Rebels are now 14-0 against the Tigers (11-9, 2-8 SEC) since 2002.
The Rebels hoisted a strong start against the Tigers' lineup. The newfound partnership between Alice Soulié and Emily Welker has proven to be strong, leading off the day with a 6-2 win over Lailaa Bashir and Zoe Lazar on court three.
In a quick turnaround, ranked co-captains Ludmila Kareisová and Anaëlle Leclercq-Ficher defeated Korina Roso and Mary Brumfield on court one, 6-3, to give the Rebels the doubles point for the second consecutive match.
Going into singles, the Rebels held a one-point advantage over the Tigers. Both Welker and Rachel Krzyzak set the tone for the afternoon, each taking their first sets at their respective courts. Senior Krzyzak notched another point for the Rebels after a 6-0, 6-4, finish on court four.
To set a comfortable pace, Welker held her own in a tight second set against Brumfield. The graduate student pulled through with a 6-1, 7-5, victory.
Two Rebels went into a third set, Kareisová and Soulié. Freshman Soulié fell short in the first set 2-6, but soon battled for redemption in a mirrored 6-2 second, and 6-2 third set. Kareisová then rekindled her fire, and came out victorious, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. The pair now have the most and second-most dual singles wins this season, with Kareisová at nine and Soulié at eight.
No shocker to the element of surprise, Leclercq-Ficher put on a show on court five. The France native claimed her first set against Roso, 7-5, and quickly aced her second set with a final of 6-3.
All down to court six, Emma Kette dropped her first set but reclaimed her fame in the second set to force a third. During a superset tie breaker, Kette battled back against Artimedi from a 3-8 deficit to tie. In a point-per-point matchup, Kette fell short with a final score of 6-4, 2-6 (12-10).
Ole Miss is back at home on Sunday, March 30, when Vanderbilt comes to Oxford.
