Women’s Tennis Takes Down No. 56 Kentucky
3/2/2025 | Women's Tennis
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss women's tennis defeated No. 56 Kentucky in a 4-0 sweep on Sunday at the Palmer/Salloum Outdoor Tennis Facility.
The Rebels (8-4, 1-2 SEC) notched their first SEC and ranked victory of the season over the Wildcats (6-5, 0-3 SEC). Ludmila Kareisová highlighted the afternoon after earning her 50th career singles victory in match-winning fashion, as her success clinched Ole Miss' triumph over Kentucky.
In a must-win situation, the doubles point fell onto courts two and three after a tough fight on court one. Andrea Nova and Lucie Petruzelova had a quick response, taking down their opponents on court three, 6-3. Soon after, duo Brooklyn Olson and Emily Welker held their ground from the first serve, to maintain a lead the entire set to clinch the doubles point. For Welker, it marks her first doubles win as a Rebel.
With the momentum from doubles, all six Rebels won their first set in singles. Alice Soulié cruised through both of her sets, to remain undefeated on the yar. After the freshman put up a 6-2, 6-4, victory, Soulie is now 5-0 in dual singles. She has yet to give up a game in her collegiate career, winning each singles bout in straight sets thus far.
Rachel Krzyzak followed suit and put up a third point for the Rebels. The senior defeated Tess Bucher in a first set tie break, 7-6 (7-3), to then sweep set two 6-1.
Four courts were pushed into a third set, as the Rebels only needed one more to clinch the match. Kareisová fought until the final second, earning her 50th career singles win in the process. The co-captain took down Lizzy Stevens on court two in a gritty 6-4, 1-6, 6-3, final score.
Three courts went unfinished, Welker at 6-2, 3-6, 5-2, Petruzelova at 6-3,2-6, 0-5, and Nova at 6-3, 3-6, 2-3.
Up next, the Rebels will travel to Starkville to face Mississippi State on March 7 at 5 p.m. Ole Miss will then journey over to Tuscaloosa in a battle against Alabama on March 9 at 11 a.m.
