Women’s Tennis Splits Home Doubleheader

OXFORD, Miss- Ole Miss women's tennis split its weekend doubleheader on Sunday at the William F. Galtney Indoor Tennis Center
The Rebels (7-2, 0-0 SEC) dropped its first matchup of the day against Iowa (5-2, 0-0 Big Ten), 4-1, but rebounded in the afternoon to claim a strong 7-0 victory over Alcorn State (3-9, 0-0 SWAC).
Head coach Mark Beyers earned his 300th win as Ole Miss' head coach in the afternoon bout against Alcorn State. Beyers is the only active coach in the SEC with three generations of wins exclusively at their current institution. Beyers, who became Ole Miss' winningest head coach in 2019, becomes the only Rebel coach to eclipse the 300-win mark.
The win also marked No. 350 in his overall coaching career, after claiming 50 in three seasons with Armstrong Atlantic State prior to joining Ole Miss. He has the 23rd most wins among all active NCAA Division I Coaches and sits atop the SEC in that category.
Sophomore Andrea Nova highlighted Ole Miss' efforts in the doubleheader. She won all four of her appearances, and both her singles matches in straight sets. Her and doubles partner Lucie Petruzelova gave up on only two games across both matches for a combined 12-2 day. She won her match against Alcorn State, 6-0, 6-0, and was the first to finish.

Ole Miss put forth solid performances against Iowa, but were unable to make up a lost doubles point.
Andrea Nova and Lucie Petruzelova dominated court three, winning 6-0. Finishing first in doubles, the Czech natives moved to 3-1 this season as a pair.
Leclercq-Ficher and Kareisová battled back on court one. The duo fell short in the tiebreak and Iowa claimed the doubles point.
In singles, Nova put the Rebels on the board on court five with a 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) decision over Iowa's Pia Kranholdt. Nova improved to 5-1 in dual meets this season.
She would be Ole Miss' lone win against Iowa. Rachel Krzyzak and Emma Kette each fought back in their respective second sets to force thirds, ultimately with their matches not finishing.

Freshman duo Alice Soulié and Brooklyn Olson shared a court for the first time in their careers and made the most of their time together. The pair won their match in convincing fashion, 6-2 and were the first to finish.
Shortly after Soulié and Olson's victory, Nova and Petruzolva won their second match of the day. In their first appearance as a tandem on court one, the sophomore-senior duo claimed a 6-3 victory. Their 2-0 day as a pair improved their record to 4-1 this season.
Nova capped an incredible day of competition by dominating her opponent on court four finished the day 4-0. She won her court without giving up a game point, 6-0, 6-0, to clinch Ole Miss' victory.
Petruzelova was the second finisher against Alcorn State. Like Nova, Petruzelova dominated her opponent on court one by giving up only one game point.
Soulié and Leclercq-Ficher closed out the day's festivities with two wins of their own on courts two and three, respectively. Soulié, in her Oxford debut, claimed the second straight set victory of her career, 6-4, 6-1, while Leclercq-Ficher won her first dual singles match of the season.
