ATHENS, Ga. – No. 5 Ole Miss came up just short of securing its first win at Sanford Stadium since 1996, falling 43-35 to Georgia on Saturday evening.
The Rebels and Bulldogs went back and forth, scoring on every drive up to the fourth quarter. In the end the Bulldog defense figured it out late accounting for two straight three-and-outs and a turnover on downs to close the game for the Rebels offense.
First off, a lot of credit to Georgia," Kiffin said. "Those guys had a really good gameplan offensively, they did a really good job in the fourth quarter making a lot of plays on both sides of the ball. Told our guys that this is exactly what you could want, going into the fourth quarter up two scores at Georgia. Chance to beat them two years in a row. Unfortunately, we didn't do things, didn't function on offense after five drives and five touchdowns. There was a lot of guys making a lot of plays during those drives offensively. That's just a formula to not win, usually you would get blown out. They scored every time they had the ball, and you give up 34 first downs. But when you're in a game like that, if those happen you just have to keep scoring, and we didn't do that in the fourth quarter.
STRIBLING'S BREAKOUT GAME
Wide Receiver De'Zhaun Stribling had his best day as a Rebel so far with 96 yards on three receptions, including a 75-yard touchdown that ranks as a career-long pass for Trinidad Chambliss.
It was a good feeling, taking advance of free access throws," Stribling said. "Just wanting to do what I can to help us score and keep the ball moving.
Stribling was one of four Rebels with three receptions or more on Saturday afternoon.
Just trying to keep up our momentum," Stribling said. "Score when we have the ball in our hands and do whatever we can to keep putting points on the board.
CHAMBLISS SHOWS CONSISTENCY
Trinidad Chambliss made Georgia work for their win, going 19-of-36 passing for 263 yards and one touchdown while also leading Ole Miss in rushing with 42 yards and two scores. This was Chambliss' second multi-rushing TD game of the season.
It's very disappointing that we lost," Chambliss said. "You want to beat a team like Georgia. We were playing well in the first half and just couldn't get it done in the fourth quarter.
Ole Miss's five consecutive touchdown drives against Georgia are the most consecutive touchdowns the Ole Miss offense has had against an opponent this season.
I trusted our scheme. I trusted our coaches and our guys were prepared," Chambliss said. "We loved the environment, loved the atmosphere and loved the opportunity. We gave them a fight, and we had them really, we did. We just need to bounce back and watch some film to get ready for Oklahoma.
