OXFORD, Miss.- Ole Miss women's tennis secured its first win of the season against Memphis, 4-2, at the Leftwich Tennis Center on Friday night.
The Rebels (1-0, 0-0 SEC) have now opened six consecutive spring schedules with a victory, and its first season opening victory against Memphis (0-1, 0-0 AAC) since 2020. The Rebels are now 20-4 in season openers under head coach Mark Beyers, who reached 10 career victories against the Tigers, in only their 11th matchup, in his 24-year tenure in Oxford.
Ole Miss took the early lead in doubles after Anaëlle Leclercq-Ficher and Ludmila Kareisová dominated on court one against Emily Meyer and Leonie Moeller. The senior duo continued where they left off in the fall season, and grabbed the first win of the day, 6-3.
In a new partnership, Rachel Krzyzak and Brooklyn Olson had a strong connection on the court, and clinched the doubles point for the Rebels after a 6-4 victory.
Andrea Nova set the tone for the Rebels at the back half of the lineup. The sophomore had an electric start, with a first set win of 6-2. Nova pulled the first straight set victory of the day, to hoist the Rebels to a 2-0 lead.
Kareisová and Lucie Petruzelova put up a strong fight in each of their respective courts. After a close fight, both Rebels came out on top in their first sets. Determined, Petruzelova secured the 75th singles win of her overall career, as she defeated Alyssa Richter 7-6, 6-4.
