Cross Country Sweeps Team Titles at Memphis Twilight

MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Ole Miss cross country opened the 2024 season in dominant fashion, sweeping both team titles at the Memphis Twilight late Saturday night.
The No. 27 Rebel women cruised to victory in the college 5K race, besting Mississippi State by 39 points at 25-64. Ole Miss placed all five scorers within the top-10, led by junior Sarah Schiffmann as the individual champion at 17:37.64 and junior Beth Arentz as the runner-up at 17:37.72.
Other Rebel women running on Saturday night were junior Frances Luna (sixth, 18:18.77), Ainhoa Brea (seventh, 18:26.23), sophomore Adie Luna (ninth, 18:34.64), freshman Alycia Hart (12th, 18:44.55), junior Samantha Ouellette (17th, 18:55.25) and sophomore Brooke Preputnick (24th, 19:10.06).
The No. 29 Rebel men, meanwhile, edged out UT Martin for the team title in the 4-mile competition by a score of 48-59. Redshirt freshman Caden Townshend led the way in his first collegiate cross country race, finishing fifth at 20:07.18. Other Rebel men running Saturday were redshirt freshman Aidan Hodge (seventh, 20:18.87), redshirt sophomore Landen McNair (eighth, 20:20.47, PR), redshirt junior Gabe Scales (10th, 20:31.30) and redshirt freshman Stone Smith (25th, 21:02.25).
Ole Miss next laces up on Sept. 27 at Missouri for the Gans Creek Classic.
