WEST POINT, N.Y. – Going into day two down one, Ole Miss shot the third-best air rifle school to move ahead of Memphis for third place. It marks three straight seasons the Rebels have finished in the top-three of the GARC Championships.
Due to her performance on the first day, Emma Pereira finished tied for sixth overall with an 1186 and made her second finals because of her 597 in air rifle. Lea Horvath also landed in the top-10, scoring an 1185 aggregate.
Day two's first air rifle relay included Regan Diamond and Katie Tedeschi. The junior in Tedeschi got the Rebels started with a 591 as they tried to climb the leaderboards.
The next relay displayed a three-headed monster that put the Rebels over Memphis. Horvath and Martina Gratz showed up and showed out to a score of 596. It is the second time Gratz has shot just below her career high in the last three matches. The senior also shot a 596 against Akron. Horvath and Gratz tied for 10th place in the discipline.
Kristen Derting shot a tad under those two with a 594, placing her tied for 16th in the event. Ole Miss' air rifle counters fired a 2377 overall and took third place in both the gun and aggregate. The score is the second highest in air rifle this season for the Navy and Red.
Pereira hit a 597 the day before with 51 centered shot, which beat the air rifle finals cut off. The sophomore would place eighth for the second consecutive day.
Ole Miss has their eyes set on the NCAA Rifle Championships on March 8-9 in Morgantown, West Virginia.
