Ole Miss Rifle Tallies Second-Best Score of Season

Huge effort in air rifle leads to 4665 points at West Virginia
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The No. 7 Ole Miss Rifle team ended a four-match road swing with its second-best score of the season, Sunday at the West Virginia University Shell Building. Ole Miss used a solid score in air rifle to accumulate 4665 points, while the No. 2 Mountaineers earned 4703 points.
The Rebels improved its NCAA qualifying three-score average from 4668.67 to 4671.33. Both freshman Erin Walsh (1171) and junior Alana Kelly (1167) improved their aggregate career bests by four points each.

Walsh, a rookie from Newark, Del., led Ole Miss with a 579, including a three-point improvement in standing (194). Sophomore Abby Buesseler and Kelly both tallied 578. Kelly was only one point off the career high she tallied last Sunday in Columbus, Ohio. Sophomore Kamilla Kisch earned her highest total of the season with a 575. Completing the Rebel scoring were senior Randi Loudin (576) and freshman Jillian Zakrzeski (571). West Virginia won the event, 2328-2304, led by David Koenders (585) and three other 580+ scores.

Ole Miss recorded its second-highest air rifle total of the season on Sunday (2361), trailing the score set seven days prior by a single point. Zakrzeski used an impressive 594 to tie three Mountaineers (2375) at the top of the leaderboard. Walsh used a 592 to set yet another career high. Not far behind her were Buesseler (588), junior Hayley Carroll (587), and Kelly (587, one point off career high).

Ole Miss hosts No. 10 Nebraska on Saturday, Feb. 2, beginning at 8 a.m. CT in the team's home finale. The first 35 fans will receive an Ole Miss Rifle blanket, and all fans in attendance earn 50 Rebel Rewards Points.
