Rebels Fire Past No. 6 Alaska Fairbanks, No. 11 Ohio State

Loudin fires a perfect prone score with 20 center shots
COLUMBUS, Ohio – A literal perfect effort by senior Randi Loudin and numerous career highs helped No. 13 Ole Miss Rifle fire past No. 6 Alaska Fairbanks and No. 11 Ohio State on Saturday at the Lt. Hugh W. Wylie Range in Columbus.
The Rebels earned their second highest score of the season with a 4659, edging UAF (4657) and host OSU (4643). UAF took top marks in air rifle, but incredible efforts helped Ole Miss own smallbore.
Loudin goes perfect in prone…
Loudin, a senior from Post Falls, Idaho, accomplished a feat many rifle athletes dream about. She not only scored a perfect prone 200 score in smallbore, but she did so with 20 center shots all marked with an (x). The accomplishment would be similar to pitching a perfect game. Ole Miss and Loudin are no strangers to obtaining 200 points in prone. The Rebels now own at least 15 in program history, with Loudin owning eight of them. She owned the previous best of 16 center shots.
Buesseler dominates smallbore and aggregate…
Sophomore Abby Buesseler took him individual victories in both smallbore (583) and aggregate totals (1175) - both of which set personal bests. Her 195 in standing was also a best mark. Buesseler's next closest competitor was UAF's JT Schnering (579 smallbore, 1171 aggregate). Rounding out the Rebels total in smallbore (2308) were Loudin (577), freshman Jillian Zakrzeski (574) and senior Harley Gardner (574). Alaska Fairbanks finished with 2304 points and Ohio State earned 2293.
Two more career highs in air rifle…
Buesseler and junior Hayley Carroll both posted impressive totals of 592 to lead Ole Miss in air rifle. Only Haley Castillo of UAF fired a better score of 593. Buesseler's score was the highest of her season, while Carroll earned a new career best. Not to be outdone, freshman Erin Walsh made the most of her first career start with a best of 589. Zakrzeski and sophomore Kamilla Kisch notched 585 points each. The Rebels finished with 2351 points, staying within reach of UAF (2353) and holding off the Buckeyes (2350).
Marsha's minute...
On Loudin's incredible performance…
"Randi Loudin fired a perfect 200-20x in prone. She has fired a 200 several times, but this was her first 200 with 20 center shots. Since the center shots are only used in tie breaking they typically aren't tracked, but neither assistant coach JP Lucas nor I recall seeing a 200-20x in NCAA competition."
On beating two quality teams…
"This was certainly a close contest today. I am happy to come out with wins over Ohio State and the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Both teams are ranked ahead of Ole Miss and Alaska will very likely qualify for NCAAs."
On Sunday's match against Akron…
"Looking toward our GARC match with Akron tomorrow, I have to say Akron is a strong team; they posted several good scores in the fall. I think it will be a very good contest."
Up Next…
Ole Miss will remain in Columbus to take on Great America Rifle Conference opponent No. 12 Akron, beginning at 8 a.m. CT on Sunday.
