HOOVER, ALA.
- From the swing of senior Alison Hovatter (Meridianville, Ala.) the Ole Miss women's golf team moved up the leaderboard in the second day of action of the SEC Women's Golf Championship at the Greystone Legacy Course.

"It was a really windy day out there," head coach Kory Henkes said. "I'm really proud of Ali's 1-under par score, because we had probably 15-mph wind gusts all day and it was swirling a lot as well. We shot one better than yesterday, so we are going in the right direction."

Hovatter fired a 1-under par 71 in Saturday's round, anchored by three birdies while limiting herself to only two bogeys. Overall, the Alabama native was proud of her round, but would like to improve the little things before Sunday.

"Today was really cool, but I didn't have my best ball striking out there," Hovatter said. "I tried to come in with the lowest possible score I could today. I'm hitting to the center of the green, but I'm not hitting them as clean as I want to. If I do that, my scoring will be really good."

Also firing a solid round was senior Abby Newton (Katy, Texas) who ended her day with a 2-over par 74. Her scorecard also included three birdies and a host of up and down pars.

"Yesterday was a really bad round, so today I came in with no expectations," Newton said. "I felt more confident out there today and I also made a lot more greens and putts which helped my score."

"We are doing better than any of my four years here," Newton added. "That's really exciting and I think we have a really good chance to move up the leaderboard."

The Rebels will hit the course for the final round of the SEC Championship at 8 a.m., and will be paired with players from Tennessee and South Carolina.

Fans can follow along with live scoring via GolfStat throughout the event.

"We have to keep doing what we are doing," Henkes closed. "We have to minimize our mistakes, I think that's key this week. The plan is to keep with our game plan and see what happens."
