Ole Miss women's golf head coach Kory Henkes met with the media Monday to recap a successful fall season and look forward to the spring.
Opening statement…
It's been a great fall for us so far. We've got a long ways to go, but we're getting there. We're currently ranked 59th in the country, and that's the best we've been since 2013 on the women's golf side. We've seen huge improvements since Coach Belt and myself got here a year ago. I think we were ranked 130th, so in a year's time, I think that's pretty good improvement, and we want to continue to get better week in and week out."
On the fall…
"This fall we played in four events, and there are usually 15-20 teams in every tournament. It's hard to win a college event, so what the men's team has done this semester has been extremely impressive. Hat's off to them for sure. We're trying to keep up with them."
On the team's improvement…
"We finished 10th, seventh, seventh and fourth this season as a team. We've seen a 10 shot average score improvement this fall from last year. It been great to see. For the most part, it's the same group of girls. We did have two new girls join us this year. One was a transfer, Katy Harris, who got her third win, but her first for Ole Miss at our final tournament of the year. Then Pi-Lillebi Hermansson from Sweden is our freshman. Having those two players has been a huge help with the competitiveness among the team. It's pushed everyone on the team to strive to get better week in and week out."
On the spring…
"We have a good spring schedule lined up with five events, plus the SEC Championship and hopefully NCAA Regionals. The Ole Miss women's golf team hasn't been to a regional since 2013. Currently at 59th, we're right on the bubble, so that's our main goal for the year is to make that regional bid."
