Rebels in 8th After Two Rounds at Golfweek Conference Challenge

WOLCOTT, Colo.-The Ole Miss women's golf team was back on the course Tuesday participating in the Golfweek Conference Challenge at the Fazio course of Red Sky Golf Club.
Ole Miss sits in eighth place going into the final 18-holes in Colorado after the team carded 10 birdies on the back nine to end their day. Head coach Kory Henkes is hoping the low scores continue into tomorrow.
"We started slow today, but we're really proud of the way the team rallied on the last nine holes," Henkes said. "If we can keep that momentum going, we think we can have a great day tomorrow."
The second round didn't come without adversity, as the day was started with a few bogie holes for the Rebels.
"We were 16 over through ten holes, and ended up playing the last eight holes 1-under par," Henkes added. "The team fights hard until the last putt drops and that's all we can really ask for."
Behind the late charge for Ole Miss was senior Alison Hovatter (Meridanville, Ala.) and junior Madisen Bentley (University Place, Wash.) who carded five birdies collectively on the back nine.
The best round of the day for the Rebels came from senior Abby Newton (Katy, Texas) who fired a 1-over par 73 including 13 holes of par or better with four birdies.
"I really didn't hit it the way I wanted to, but I was able to come out with a decent score," said Newton. "Tomorrow I'm hoping to strike the ball a lot better and have a great round!"
Ole Miss hits the course for the final round tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m. MT in a shotgun format. Fans can follow the action with live scoring via GolfStat.
