The Ole Miss women's golf team completed the first round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge on Monday and sit in seventh place with two players in the top-20 going into day two.

Seniors Alison Hovatter (Meridanville, Ala.) and Abby Newton (Katy, Texas) lead the way for Ole Miss and both sit tied for 15th after each firing a 2-over par 74.

For Hovatter, it was a day of bounce backs after starting the day above par on the first few holes.

"I had a rough start being 4-over through the first three holes." Hovatter said. "I stayed patient and knew there were plenty of holes I could get strokes back on. We have improved already in the few weeks that Coach Kory (Henkes) and Coach Drew (Belt) have been here. I'm looking forward to the next two days."

Sophomore Sofia Idoyaga (Buenos Aires, Argentina) had one of the highlights of the day with an eagle on No. 18, the first eagle of the season for the Ole Miss squad. In total, the Rebels saw 11 holes with birdies or better led by three apiece from Hovatter and freshman Martina Flori (Montecatini Terme, Italy)

The second round of the Golfweek Conference Challenge will begin tomorrow morning at 10:00 a.m. MT at Red Sky Golf Club on the Fazio Course. Ole Miss will pair with players from Long Beach State and the University of Memphis.
