Ole Miss Football Postgame Quotes
Ole Miss vs. Memphis
Vaught-Hemingway Stadium - Oxford, Miss.
Sept. 27, 2014

Ole Miss Head Coach Hugh Freeze

On the game …
"Chucky (Mullins) would have been proud of the helmets and particularly, how the defense played. He would have loved that. We'll continue to honor his character traits: his selflessness and his attitude about life and against adversity."

On the defense …
"Our kids showed great resolve and I'm extremely proud of our defense. We haven't had a better effort than that in our two and a half years here. They were phenomenal, and Memphis is a team that has been putting up really good numbers. Allowing three first downs is pretty amazing with today's offenses."

On the offense …
"We didn't help ourselves offensively with our turnovers and negative plays, but some of that credit does go to Memphis. We have to play better on that side of the football and make field goals when we get the chance. We're very excited to be 4-0 and proud of our guys for battling all the way through it."

On next week …
"I'm so glad this is over and everyone can do whatever talking they want to do about next week. It was distracting at times. It's good to play a four-quarter game against a good football team and get a win. Now we can move on to next week."

Ole Miss Student-Athletes

#25, Cody Prewitt, DB
On being 4-0 …
"We have earned it. We have worked really hard for three years and it's paying off. I'm really excited about where we are. Tonight, on defense, we had a really solid game. We really see what potential we have and the things we can reach."

On next week's game against Alabama …
"We are going to prepare for them like we do everybody else. They are coming into our house so we are not going to be intimidated. They are going to be the ones climbing up the hill."

#5, Robert Nkemdiche, DL
On the game …
"We played a great game. We've been really focused on defense for the past two weeks. We came out and played sound football, and it helped us win the game. Our offense had their struggles, but they stepped it up in the second half."

On next week's game against Alabama …
"We are going to stay focused and continue to grind and prepare like we have for all of our other opponents. We just need to continue to correct our mistakes and get ready to play Alabama in the Vaught next week."

#1, Laquon Treadwell, WR
On the game …
"It felt great playing on our home field in front of Rebel Nation. On the defensive side of the ball, they played great. We have minor errors we need to fix, but we fix those things this week and get ready for Alabama.

On improvements going into next week …
"We have a few things stopping us right now from being the best offense that we can be. The defense is playing great. All we have to do is focus on the little things and correcting them. If we do that this week, we'll be good."

#14, Bo Wallace, QB
On getting the win …
"We have things we need to work on. It was a hard-fought win. It was a great victory and our defense played great. We just have to focus this week on improving and getting better."

On things to improve on ...
"We need to improve in every aspect of the offense. We ran the ball well, but we can always improve in that area. I just have to make better decisions with the football."

Memphis Head Coach Justin Fuente

Opening remarks …
"I'm proud of our kids and the way they battled. We just didn't have enough to get over the hump against a good football team."

On the Ole Miss defense …
"They kicked our tail. They didn't do anything new; they're just pretty darn good."

On staying with Ole Miss late …
"We were holding up defensively against a really good offense forcing turnovers and making plays, but we couldn't continue to hold them out. If you continue to keep giving teams like that an opportunity, they're going to capitalize."

On defensive play …
"We tried to mix it up a little because there were several problems out there defending them. We had issues with the passing game, running game and some of their combination of running and throwing at the same time. We are fortunate enough where we can mix it up a little and do some different things in our best effort to keep them off balance."

On the Memphis receivers …
"We got ahead of ourselves a little bit. We had a third down, and I thought we were going to convert it in the third quarter and that led to the interception. That was a big play, and our defense did a good job holding them to kicking a field goal there. That was a big momentum swing though. There were a couple of times where the receiver was there and the defender was there, but we couldn't come down with it."

Memphis Student-Athletes

#12, Paxton Lynch, QB
On starting the fourth quarter down one score …
"We were excited we were hanging in there with them all game and our defense kept us in the game in the fourth quarter. We just knew we had to put a drive together, but we were making too many mistakes on offense"

#21, Bobby McCain, CB
On the game …
"We never prepare to lose; we always prepare to win. We went into the game knowing it was going to be a four-quarter fight obviously and we came up a little short, but being in the game it gives you confidence to know you can play with anybody."
