BOERNE, Texas - The Ole Miss women's golf team concluded action at the Jim West Challenge on Monday in Texas. The Rebels closed in 10th place with a three-day score of 928 (314-309-305 --- 928) just ahead of tournament host, Texas State. Alison Hovatter (Meridianville, Ala.) and Stani Schiavone (Bangor, Pa.) led Ole Miss in the individual standings finishing tied for 22nd place with 54-hole scores of 230.
"It was good to see some better results today," said head coach Michele Drinkard. "Stani played well the first 18 and was unfortunate we had to play 36 with her coming back from injury. She gave everything she had and I applaud her for the gutsy effort she gave to the team."
The Rebels saved their best golf for the final round, which is the sixth lowest round for the squad this fall. Schiavone had a great second round shooting an even par 72 to lead Ole Miss. In the second round of action, the senior owned the front nine, shooting 2-under par, with five birdies, including three straight birdies on the first three holes.
Hovatter was equally as steady on the final day, shooting a 5-over par 77 in the second round and closing with a tournament best round of 75 in the final round. Abby Newton (Katy, Texas) and Taelor Rubin (Raleigh, N.C.) also saved their best golf for late recording scores of 76 and 75, respectively in the final round.
"Alison and Taelor also turned in better rounds in their second 18 holes, showing improvement," said Drinkard. "As a team, we have some in-season time now to work individually on some things to prepare and improve on for the spring."
Maria Toennessen (Grimstad, Norway) posted rounds of 80 and 79 to close action at the Jim West Challenge. Kaitlin Voll (Alpharetta, Ga.), playing as an individual closed with a three-day score of 237 finishing tied for 49th.
"It was good to have Katie back in the mix getting her some rounds under he belt before the spring," said Drinkard.
The Rebels are done with fall tournaments and will be back on the links in March, opening up the spring season at the Hurricane Invitational hosted by the University of Miami at the Biltmore March 2-4.
