Women's Golf at Mercedes-Benz Championship

Ole Miss women's golf SID Jessica Poole is serving as a guest bloggerfor this weekend's trip to the Mercedes-Benz Championship.
Road trips are a part of life if you're a student-athlete.In fact, most seasons are like one big road trip with a few home matches ortournaments sprinkled in, but if you're a support staffer, say an SID, as I am,road trips take on a different meaning.
I'm new to the Ole Miss family, I've been on the job exactly49 days so any road trip is going to be a fun new adventure to me, so when thewomen's golf team invited me to tag along with them this week to Knoxville, Iwas all in! First of all, I'm a closet golf fanatic. I'm talking, I love watchingthe Golf Channel and I want to be on the show the Big Break but my golf skillsare not quite up to par (no pun intended :) So getting to golf through them, becausethey actually know what they are doing has been so much fun.
For me, the best part about this trip has been getting toknow everyone in a way that is not achieved in my once a month trips topractice or a team photo shoot. This group has welcomed me with open arms andeven let me get in on the Sock It To Cancer fun socks in support of coach KimEvans. We shared lots of laughs today and I know the rest of the weekend willbe the same!
You also learn a lot about teams on road trips especially fromthe music and this team has music selection down to a science. We've listenedto Queen, Will Smith, The Fray and Chris Brown to name a few - all good tunes whichresulted in lots of singing!
Another observation that I've made is that this team isfamily. Out on the course they have each other's backs, they share in eachother's joys and are battling together to improve each and every hole, everytime out. It's really awesome to be a part of!
