Women's Hoops Drops Close Game With No. 10 Tennessee

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's basketball team hung tough with No. 10 Tennessee, falling to the Lady Vols at home 66-56 Sunday afternoon in front of 2,776 fans.
With the loss, Ole Miss fell to 12-15 overall (2-12 SEC) while No. 10 Tennessee improved to 20-7 overall (12-3 SEC).
Valencia McFarland recorded her ninth career 20-point game with 21 points while Amber Singletary added eight. Tia Faleru finished the game with six boards. As a team, Ole Miss tied their season high with eight threes.
After a 9-9 tie on a three pointer from Valencia McFarland with 15:26 to play, the Lady Vols took an 18-15 lead with 8:34 remaining in the half. Five of Ole Miss' first six field goals were threes.
Tennessee used a 10-2 run to push ahead 28-19 with 3:15 remaining in the half. A jumper from Amber Singletary cut the Lady Vols' lead to 28-21 with less than two minutes to play as Tennessee led by 11 at the break, 32-21.
McFarland led the Rebels at the half with 11 points while Singletary had five. Danielle McCray and Faleru each had three rebounds. Tennessee held a 24-15 advantage in rebounding . Ole Miss shot 29.6 percent from the floor (8-27) while Tennessee shot 39.4 percent (13-33).
In the second half, Tennessee took an early 11-point lead, 32-11, before a put back from McCray cut the Lady Vols' lead to four, 38-34, with 16:18 left to play. Tennessee pushed its lead to 11, 64-56, with just over a minute to play.
For the game, Ole Miss shot 37.3 percent from the floor (22-59) while Tennessee shot 43.6 percent (24-55).
Ole Miss will play at No. 15 Georgia Thursday night at 6 p.m. CT.
