Women's Hoops Drops Game To Auburn

OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss women's basketball team fell to Auburn, 67-54, Sunday.

With the loss, Ole Miss fell to 12-10 overall (2-7 SEC) while Auburn improved to 11-11 (3-6 SEC).

Valencia McFarland led Ole Miss with 15 points, five rebounds and four assists while Danielle McCray added eight points and five rebounds and Nikki Byrd scored 11.

A basket from Tia Faleru with 16:11 remaining in the half put the Rebels up three, 7-4. Ole Miss went up five, 15-10, on a jumper from McCray with 11:42 to play.

From that point, neither team led by more than three until the Tigers led by six, 32-28, with just over three minutes left in the half.

Auburn led Ole Miss, 38-28, at the half. McFarland led the Rebels at the break with nine points and four boards while McCray had seven points. Ole Miss shot 35.7 percent from the floor (10-28) while Auburn shot 51.7 percent (15-29).

In the second half, a pair of free throws from Byrd cut Auburn's lead to six, 44-38, with 15:10 to play but the Tigers hit a three on their next trip down the floor to push their lead to nine, 47-38.

Auburn pulled away down the stretch leading by 16, 59-45, with 4:05 to play.

For the game, Ole Miss shot 32.7 percent (17-52) from the floor while Auburn shot 46.3 (25-54). The Tigers outrebounded the Rebels 40-32.

Ole Miss will play at No. 6 Kentucky on Thursday at 6 p.m. CT.
