Rebel Rifle Falls At West Virginia

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Despite a pair of 589 marks in the air rifle from Melissa Quartarone and Keely Stankey, the Ole Miss rifle team dropped its match 4671-4646 at Great American Rifle Conference foe West Virginia on Saturday.
Led by Quartarone and Stankey, Ole Miss knocked off the Mountaineers 2349-2348 in the air rifle. Sophomore Abbey Stanec added a mark of 586, while Alivia Yeager fired a 585. Kim Coffey closed out the Rebel air rifle line with a total of 579.
Quartarone also led the Rebels with a mark of 583 in the smallbore, but the Rebels fell 2323-2297 to the Mountaineers in the smallbore. Stanec posted a mark of 572, while Coffey and Stankey both fired a 571. Sophomore MaryAnn Banks finished the Ole Miss smallbore scoring with a score of 565.
"I am happy that we have kept our scores up," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. "Winning the air rifle was a small victory, but it will help with our confidence.
Ole Miss wrapped up the fall portion of its schedule and will return to action on Jan. 14 when the Rebels hosted North Carolina State at the Patricia C. Lamar National Guard Readiness Center.
