FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 7 Ole Miss rifle program made history on Saturday, defeating No. 6 TCU, 4745-4724, while setting a new program record in air rifle.
The Rebels (8-0, 5-0 PRC) took down the Horned Frogs (5-3, 2-1 PRC) to remain unbeaten on the season, led by a career-high 599 in air rifle from Regan Diamond and a cumulative air rifle score of 2393, good for a program record. The record bests the old mark, set last season at Memphis on Feb. 15.
The Rebels opened the day in a dog fight with the Horned Frogs, as both sides put up strong showings in smallbore. Jordan de Jesus led the way, tallying a 593 in smallbore, while Audrey Gogniat was right behind her with a 592. However, TCU finished with the third, fourth and fifth best scores behind them, as Ole Miss clung to a 2352-2349 lead.
Needing a strong push in air rifle, the Rebels surged to a program-best. Leading the way were sensational performances from Diamond and Dinh, who each surged to 599's. Gogniat was not far behind with a 588, as the Rebels came just three points away from a program-high in aggregate score. Diamond bested her previous high of 597 that came during last season's PRC Championships.
Four Rebels delivered 50 or more centers in air rifle to help pull away, compared to just one on TCU's side.
De Jesus and Gogniat led all participants with 1190's, while Dinh finished fourth with an 1185.
The Rebels are back in action for the final time this fall, traveling to No. 1 West Virginia. Action opens on Saturday, Nov. 14 at 10 a.m. CT.
