WILMINGTON, N.C. - In the opening round of the program's first appearance at the Landfall Tradition, the Ole Miss Rebels shot a 315 in windy conditions to conclude Friday in a tie for 12th place.
The Rebels are currently tied with Iowa State and Florida State in the team standings.
"It was a tough day for the team, said head coach Michele Drinkard. "The temperature plummeted 25 degrees and the wind made it more difficult to select clubs."
Not one of the 18 teams in the tournament managed to shoot at par or under. No. 3 Auburn leads the tournament with a 9-over 297--seven strokes in front of second place Purdue.
Natalie Gleadall carded a team-best 4-over 76 for Ole Miss to end the day in a tie for 13th place. Paula Reto of Purdue was the only individual to finish under-par.
Haley Millsap is one stroke back from the top-20 after shooting a 77. Haley Sanders followed with a 78 for the day.
"The good news is that tomorrow will be colder, and mother-nature is going to add some rain," said Drinkard. "That means a strong round moves us up the leaderboard. Practice today will be 99.9% on short game and putting, because that is where the game will be Saturday."
Play continues Saturday with the second round of the tournament. Fans can follow along with live scoring at www.OleMissSports.com.
