Rebels Fall At Central Michigan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Central Michigan used a big second half to pull away from the Ole Miss women's basketball team, as the Rebels fell 82-66 at McGurik Arena Saturday. afternoon.
After shooting a season-high 51.2 percent in the first half, The Rebels shot just 34.5 percent in the second half. With the loss, Ole Miss falls to 7-4 this year while Central Michigan improves to 7-3.
Maggie McFerrin's baseline jumper put Ole Miss up seven, 16-9, with 13:09 to play. Central Michigan quickly cut the Rebels' lead to three, 6-13, with 12:21 remaining.
LaTosha Laws' gave Ole Miss a five-point lead with 10:26 to play before the Chippewas went on a 12-0 run to go up 25-18 with 7:25 to play. Nikki Byrd scored eight points in a two-and-a-half-minute span to bring the Rebels to within one, 30-29, with 4:33 remaining in the first half.
Central Michigan went into the half leading 40-36. Byrd led Ole Miss at the half with 14 points while Courtney Marbra has nine points and six boards. The Rebels shot a season-best 51.6 percent (16-of-31) in the first half.
Central Michigan came out in the second half and increased its lead to 10, 54-44, with 13:08 left to play. The Chippewas pulled away late in the second half leading by 19 with 8:55 to play.
Byrd and Meson led Ole Miss with 16 points while Marbra added a career-high 11 and eight rebounds.
Central Michigan came into the game third in the nation in scoring averaging 88.9 points per game.
Ole Miss host Miami at Noon on December 21 and admission to the Miami game is free. The Rebels will then play in the St. Peter's Holiday Classic in Jersey City, NJ on December 29 and 30. Ole Miss will open SEC play at home against Vanderbilt on January 2 at 2 p.m.
