OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss rifle team tied a school record with a team aggregate score of 4625 as the Rebels knocked off NC State over the weekend in Oxford.
The Rebels tied the school record, set at last year's NCAA qualifier, with a team score of 2341 in air rifle and 2284 in smallbore. The smallbore mark also tied the school record set at the same NCAA qualifier.
Senior Meredith Holman led the way for the Rebels with a mark of 588 in air rifle and was followed closely by junior Keely Stankey's total of 587. Freshman Abbey Stanec finished with a score of 584, while Kim Coffey and Colleen Tillson rounded out the Rebel line with marks of 582 and 573, respectively.
In smallbore, Stankey fired a total of 581 for the Rebel high and Holman turned in a score of 573. Coffey finished with a mark of 566, while Tillson (564) and Stanec (563) closed out the line for the record-tying total of 2284.
"We had a lot of great shooting by everybody," said Ole Miss head coach Valerie Boothe. It was great to tie the school record, but we still have ground to gain. I'm really proud of how we are performing, but we will have to be on top of our game against Jacksonville State. They have been shooting really well and will be a great match up."
The Rebels will travel to Jacksonville, Ala., this Saturday to take on the Gamecocks.
