Women's Golf Finishes 14th At Cougar Classic

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Ole Miss women's golf team shot a third-round 305 to finish 14th at the Cougar Classic at Yeaman's Hall with a three-day total of 910.

Georgia shot an 850, breaking its own tournament record of 858, to claim the title. The Bulldogs finished 14-under par and seven strokes ahead of Florida State.

Georgia's Marta Silva Zamora won individual medalist honors after firing a 70 in the third round to finish with a 208. She beat out Florida State's Lacey Agnew by one stroke.

Sarah Grantham led the Rebels with a three-round total of 224. She posted rounds of 73 and 74 sandwiched around a 77 to finish tied for 39th. Freshman Haley Sanders, after a first-round 78, carded 75 and 74 for a 227 total.

"Sara and Haley (Sanders) played much better today hitting more greens and having more opportunities for birdies," head coach Michele Drinkard said. "Now that we have completed two tournaments, Alexis (Rather) and I have a greater insight on where we need to focus with each player to help them improve.

"We have several weeks to increase our fitness level with strength coach Jami Clinton and to work on our preparation for Missouri."

The Rebels will return to the links Oct. 5-6 when they seek to defend their title at the Johnie Imes Invitational in Columbia, Mo.
