Sara Grantham Begins Defense Of Alabama State Amateur

OXFORD, Miss. -- Ole Miss women's golfer Sara Grantham is set to begin defense of her Alabama State Amateur Championship Tuesday, as stroke-play qualifying begins at the Willow Point Golf Club in Alexander, Ala.
Grantham unseated six-time champion, Kathy Hartwiger, 3 and 2 to capture the title last year at the Timberline Golf Club. She began the week by capturing medalist honors in stroke-play qualifying.
The rising senior is hoping to continue her solid play this summer. Grantham advanced to match play at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship in June, and then last week, she qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship, which takes place Aug. 3-9 in St. Louis, Mo.
Grantham will tee off at 8:24 a.m. Tuesday. The 16 lowest qualifying scores will be placed in the championship flight. Match play begins Wednesday and concludes Friday with 36 holes for the championship. Check back at www.OleMissSports.com for updates on Grantham's play.
