Women's Golf Concludes Day One At Johnie Imes

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Ole Miss women's golf team shot a 314 in the first round of the Johnie Imes Invitational Monday, and was almost through with their second round when play was suspended due to darkness.
Two Rebels did complete their second round. Sara Grantham shot 76-73-149 and is in sixth. Jillian Brodd opened with an 81, but came back to shoot 73 in the second round to jump up to a tie for 23rd. Brodd had the highlight of the day for the Rebels, finishing her last four holes (1-4) 3-under par. On No. 1 (378-yard Par 4) she hit a 6 iron for her second shot that hit the front of the green and tracked 40 feet or so to find the bottom of the cup for a 2 (eagle). Then finished her last hole (No. 4) with a six-foot birdie.
Tulsa turned in a 301 led by individual leader Kristina Merkle, who fired a 69. Illinois State is in second at 305, Wisconsin is third at 309.
"Our first round today was frustrating. We didn't adapt very well to the cooler conditions and dew on the ground and got off to a slow start," head coach Michele Drinkard said. "In the second round Sara and Jillian turned it around and both fired 73's. The others have 1 to 2 holes left to finish when play resumes in the morning. Tomorrow the plan is to start the day with the energy we created during the second round and finish strong."
The Rebels will conclude the second round Tuesday followed by the third round of play.
