Rebel Golfers Finish Fourth At Johnie Imes

COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Ole Miss women's golf team fired the low round of the day (299) at the Johnie Imes Invitational Tuesday, to move from seventh to fourth place in the final standings at the Club at Old Hawthorne.

The Rebels finished with a 314-303-299-916. Senior Andrea Buccilla shot a career-best 73, and junior Jillian Brodd carded a 74 in rainy and windy conditions, to lead Ole Miss.

"We are proud of the team today," head coach Michele Drinkard said. "You could tell in the parking lot this morning that they came ready to play, and they did well in difficult conditions.

"Andrea and Jill led the way for us and showed a lot of composure in windy wet conditions. Today's round gives us great momentum to prepare for our next tournament."

Senior Sara Grantham tied for fourth with a 76-73-76-225, earning her second career top-five and sixth top-10 finish. The fourth-place showing is Grantham's second straight top-10 finish at the Johnie Imes, as she finished 10th at last year's tournament.

After opening with an 81, Brodd posted 73 and 74 to end up in a tie for 12th, her best finish as a Rebel. It also marked her second consecutive top 20 finish at the Johnie Imes, as she tied for 14th at last year's event.

Wisconsin overtook Tulsa for the title with a 909. Tulsa took second at 912, and host Missouri finished third at 913. Tulsa's Kristina Merkle captured medalist honors with a 222.

The Rebels will now have a week and a half to prepare for their next tournament, the Mercedes Benz Championship hosted by the University of Tennessee Oct. 16-18.
