Grantham Leads Rebels At Mercedes

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Senior Sara Grantham led the Ole Miss women's golf team at the Mercedes Benz Championship, shooting a 74 in the final round Sunday, to tie for 11th with a 74-732-74--221. The Rebels finished in 10th place with a 309-296-304--909.

Grantham earned her 10th career top 20 finish and was just one stroke back of a top 10 finish.

"Sara had another well played tournament," head Coach Michele Drinkard said. "She is really building her confidence on adapting to whatever it takes that day to score."

After a disappointing start (309) to the tournament on Friday, the Rebels rebounded to shoot 296 on Saturday and move up to seventh. They got off to a slow start again Sunday with cool and very windy conditions, but finished well for a 304.

"We are proud of the team," Drinkard said. "We got off to a rough start this morning with the cold temperature and the windy conditions. The back nine we flipped a switch and finished strong playing the last nine holes one over par.

"After we thaw out, we have a quick turn around this week to prepare and travel to San Antonio Saturday."

Host Tennessee ran away with the event, finishing with a 868, 19 better than second-place Louisville (887). South Carolina came in third at 889, Kent State shot 897 for fourth, and Wake Forest had an 899 for fifth place.

In a strong field with eight teams in the Top 25, the Rebels beat No. 7 LSU, No. 9 Ohio State and No. 20 Tulane.

Next up for Ole Miss is the Alamo Invitational hosted by Texas San Antonio Oct. 26-27.
