Women's Golf Moves Up At Mercedes

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The Ole Miss women's golf team improved their standing at the Mercedes Benz Championship by shooting 13 strokes better on Saturday with a 296, led by senior Sara Grantham and junior Jillian Brodd. The Rebels (605) jumped from a tie for 12th to 7th heading into the final round at Fox Den Country Club.

Brodd, a native of Knoxville, fired an even-par 72 to move up to a tie for 24th. She had three birdies on the day. Grantham shot 73 and is tied for 14th. Sophomore Haley Millsap carded a 75, and sophomore Ashley Lance turned in a 76 to round out the Rebel scoring.

"We had a great round today, led by Jillian's 72 and Sara's 73," head coach Michele Drinkard said. "The team was on a mission to overcome the bitter windy conditions and score. What I am proud of them for is their commitment to adapt and to commit to each shot and execute. Tomorrow is another day, and we want to finish with this type of intensity."

Tennessee posted a 291 in the second round for a 574 total, and maintained their lead over Louisville, who fired a 286 for a 582 total. South Carolina (592) is third, Kent State (596) is fourth and Florida (599) is fifth.
