Carter Paces Lady Rebels At Johnie Imes
9/29/2008 | Women's Golf
Ole Miss led after round one with a 300. They started off slow on the front nine of the second round and slipped in the standings, but rebounded on the last six holes to finish strong with a 299.
Arkansas-Little Rock leads the field with a 593, and host
Carter shot an even-par 72 in the first round and then came back with a rousing 69 in the second round that included an eagle and five birdies to head into the final round in third place.
“I am really proud of our team today,” head coach Michele Drinkard said. “We had a solid first round, fell asleep for our first six holes to start the second round and then kicked in and finished strong our last six holes.
“Dori caught on fire her last 10 holes and played them 6-under par. She just as easily could have had it to 7-under. She hit the ball great today and putted even better.”
Junior Sara Grantham is tied for 17th with a 76-75151. Freshman Ashley Lance, competing in her first tournament for the Lady Rebels, is tied for 24th after a 77-76153. Sophomore Jillian Brodd posted a 75-79154 to round out the scoring. Freshman Haley Millsap shot a 79-79158.
“We learned a valuable lesson today, and that is when you stay in the present, stay positive and play one shot at a time good things will happen in return, and they did,” Drinkard said. “We are excited to play our final round in the morning.”
