9/16/2008 | Women's Golf

HANAHAN, S.C. Ole Miss women’s senior golfer Dori Carter fired a 1-under 71 in the final round of the Cougar Classic Tuesday, to finish tied for 14th at the Yeaman’s Hall Golf Club to lead the Lady Rebels.

The All-American was 3-under going into her last four holes, but bogeyed three of them to finish with the 71.  After opening with a 74, she carded a 72 in the second round and jumped up 12 positions from the first round to earn her 19th career top 20 finish.

The Lady Rebels as a team finished 16th with a 307-307-305--919.  Freshman Haley Millsap, competing in her first tournament for Ole Miss, carded a 78-74-76--228, junior Sara Grantham posted a 75-80-75--230, freshman Kirsty Rands turned in a 80-81-83244 and senior J.J. Flynn tallied a 83-86-84--253 to round out the Lady Rebel scoring.

“We have a lot of positives that we can pull from in our first tournament that we can use to prepare for Missouri's tournament,” head coach Michele Drinkard said.  “The bottom line is we need to take care of our short game this next week and be confident in and around the greens.”

Georgia shot a 291 in the third round to win the Cougar Classic by five strokes over Alabama.  Florida State’s Caroline Westrup tied the tournament record with a low-66 third round and took home individual medalist honors.  The 858 total by the Bulldogs broke the old tournament record by 12 strokes.

Ole Miss will return to the links Sept. 29-30 at the Johnie Imes in Columbia, Mo.
