Incoming Lady Rebel Golfer Advances At Trans Amateur

7/16/2008 | Women's Golf

DALLAS Incoming Ole Miss women’s golfer Ashley Lance is competing in the 78th annual Trans Amateur Championship this week at the Bent Tree Country Club in Dallas, Texas.

Lance, a native of Franklin, Tenn., made it to match play after two days of stroke play qualifying on Monday and Tuesday.  In the first round of match play on Wednesday, Lance defeated Lydia Benitez (rising Senior at Michigan) 2 & 1.  She will face former Arizona State All-American Thuhashini Selvaratnam in Thursday’s second round.

“This is a nice win for Ashley,” head coach Michele Drinkard said.  “She is really starting to play well and getting used to being back in competition after redshirting last year (at Michigan State).  We can’t wait for her to put the Red and Blue on this fall.”

Lance will need to win two rounds Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals.
