Women's Golf On The Rise With Latest Rankings
11/5/2008 | Women's Golf
OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss women's golf team is on the rise as the latest Golfweek Rankings have them up to No. 35 in the nation. Senior All-American Dori Carter is ranked No. 13 individually in Golfstat and No. 14 in Golfweek.
The Rebels recently completed a successful fall campaign with three consecutive top five finishes, including winning the Johnie Imes Invitational. A fifth place showing at the Mercedes Benz Championship and the Derby Invitational, both with top fields, has the team looking forward to the spring.
"We couldn't have written a better script to follow than what the team accomplished this fall," head coach Michele Drinkard said. "We have worked very hard to come to practice with an agenda and goals to achieve each and every practice, and it is paying off. Now that our tournaments are over for the fall we have reviewed our individual stats, evaluated every aspect and set some goals to keep our strengths and our weaknesses stronger."
Carter, who was named the SEC Golfer of the Week on Oct. 16, posted three top five finishes in four events this fall, including back-to-back runner-up showings at the Johnie Imes and Mercedes Benz. The Valdosta, Ga., native leads the team with a 71.50 stroke average and 10 rounds at par or better.
Ole Miss will begin the spring Feb. 22-24 at the Kiawah Island Intercollegiate. Highlighting their spring slate will be the Rebel Intercollegiate April 3-5 at the newly renovated University Golf Course.
