AUBURN, Ala. In extremely windy conditions, the Ole Miss women’s golf team carded another 305 in the second round of the Derby Invitational Saturday at the Auburn University Club, and maintained its position of fifth place going into Sunday’s final round.

Arizona State was the only team to go under par, carding a 4-under 284 to overtake Virginia for the lead at 584.  The Cavaliers are second at 587, Alabama is third at 596, and host Auburn is fourth at 602.

“We dealt with tough swirling winds today, but we hung in there and held our position,” head coach Michele Drinkard said.  “We had a great practice session and strategy session afterwards, and we’ll be ready to play Sunday.”

Senior Dori Carter posted a 2-under 70 after Friday’s 75 and jumped up to sixth in the standings.   Junior Sara Grantham and sophomore Jillian Brodd both shot 78, and senior Rachel Ingram finished with a 79.  Freshman Ashley Lance had an 83, which did not count in the total score.

The Rebels will seek to conclude the fall with their third top five finish in a row as the final round begins Sunday at 8 a.m., with a shotgun start.
