AUBURN, Ala. In tough conditions, the Ole Miss women’s golf team carded a 305 in the first round of the Derby Invitational Friday at the Auburn University Club, and stands in fifth place going into the second round.

Virginia shot 289 and leads Alabama (294) by five shots.  Host Auburn is third at 298, while Arizona State is fourth at 300.

“We knew the conditions were going to be tough today, and we had the right mind set,” head coach Michele Drinkard said.  "We were prepared.  Afterwards, the team reviewed their game plans and made the appropriate changes to prepare for another great day Saturday.”

Senior Dori Carter finished with a 75 to lead the Rebels, and is tied for 20th.  Junior Sara Grantham and freshman Ashley Lance shot 76.  Sophomore Jillian Brodd turned in a 78, and senior Rachel Ingram had an 83, which didn’t count in the total score.

The Rebels will begin the second round Saturday at 9:15 a.m.
