10/16/2008 | Women's Golf

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. Ole Miss senior Dori Carter has been named the SEC Golfer of the Week as announced by the league office Thursday.

“This is an outstanding accomplishment for Dori to receive,” head coach Michele Drinkard said.  “Good things happen to those who work hard, and Dori has stepped up her preparation this fall.  It is nice to see it paying off for her.”

The Valdosta, Ga., native finished second at the Mercedes Benz Championship last weekend at the Fox Den Country Club in Knoxville, Tenn., firing a three-round score of 211 (69-72-70), two shots off the win.  She helped lead the Rebels to a fifth place performance, the second straight top 5 for Ole Miss this fall.  The Rebels 54-hole score of 881 is the lowest three-round score in school history.

It marked Carter’s second runner-up finish in a row, as she also earned second place at the Johnie Imes Invitational, leading the Rebels to their first tournament title since 2004.

The All-American owns a 71.22 stroke average and is ranked ninth in the latest Golfstat Cup standings.  Carter has posted eight rounds at par or better this fall for the Rebels.
