10/15/2008 | Women's Golf
OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss women's golf team, coming off a win at the Johnie Imes Invitational and a top five finish at the Mercedes Benz Championship, moved up to No. 43 in the Golfweek Rankings and No. 44 in Golfstat. Senior Dori Carter is ranked No. 9 in the Golfstat Cup Standings.
The Rebels claimed the program's first tournament title since 2004, in winning the Johnie Imes. This past weekend they finished fifth at the Mercedes Benz hosted by Tennessee and beat 11 teams ranked in the top 50.
"It's nice to see the team gain some recognition nationally," head coach Michele Drinkard said. "This gives us great motivation to prepare that much harder for our last tournament of the fall at Auburn."
Cartrer owns two top five finishes in three tournaments, including consecutive runner-up finishes at the Johnie Imes Invitational and the Mercedes Benz. She led the Rebels to their lowest 54-hole score (881) in school history at the Mercedes Benz. Carter has posted eight rounds at par or better and owns a 71.22 stroke average.
The Rebels will conclude the fall Oct. 24-26 at the Derby Invitational hosted by Auburn.
