Lady Rebel Golfers Continue Strong Play At Mercedes Benz

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The Ole Miss women’s golf team continued its strong play Saturday at the Mercedes Benz Championship, carding a 290 to move up one spot to fifth in the team standings heading into Sunday’s final round at the Fox Den Country Club.  Three players finished at or under par for the day.

North Carolina (577) leads Louisville (579) by two.  Ole Miss (585) trails North Carolina State (583) by two and LSU (584) by one.

 

Senior Dori Carter shot an even-par 72 in the second round to go with her opening 69, and is tied for fourth at 141, just three back of the individual leader, Marika Lendel of Central Florida.   Sophomore Jillian Brodd carded a 1-under 71 to go with Friday’s 75 to lead the Lady Rebels on day two, and jumped up to a tie for 19th at 146.

 

Junior Sara Grantham turned in a 72 to go with her first round 75 and is tied for 27th at 147.  Freshman Haley Millsap rounded out the Lady Rebel scoring with a 75 in the second round.   Ashley Lance had a 78 which didn’t count in the total.

 

“We played relaxed today, and it showed in our fast start this morning,” head coach Michele Drinkard said.  “The team continues to improve and is doing a great job of staying in the present.  We are looking forward to tomorrow and the opportunity we have created for an excellent finish.”
