Johnson Advances To Round Of 32 At Trans National Championship

OXFORD, Miss. Megan Johnson, a sophomore on the women’s golf team at Ole Miss, survived to play another day as she advanced to the round of 32 in match-play at the 77th Women’s Trans National Championship on Wednesday. The event is being played at Persimmon Ridge Golf Club in Louisville, Ky.

 

Johnson defeated Yu Lee, 4 and 3, in the round of 64 to advance in the tournament. Lee is a sophomore on the golf team at Duke University, who won the national title in 2007.

 

Johnson will return to action on Thursday at 12:46 p.m., when she will take on Kellye Belcher, who is on the Indiana University golf team.

 

"Meg turned in a solid performance today on a difficult course to advance to the round of 32 at Persimmon Ridge," said Ole Miss head coach Michele Drinkard. "Every tough match played is experienced gained that will help Meg in our upcoming season at Ole Miss."

 

Ending their run at the event were a pair of Rebel golfers as sophomore Rachel Ingram and incoming freshman Jillian Brodd were eliminated in the round of 64 after making the cut to advance to match-play.

 

Ingram fell to Ana Tanpinco 6 and 5, while Brodd fell to Emma Bennett 4 and 2.
