Rebels Have Four Earn AP All-SEC Honors

12/6/2007 | Football

ATLANTA -- Ole Miss' Michael Oher, Greg Hardy, Peria Jerry and BenJarvus Green-Ellis garnered All-Southeastern Conference accolades from the Associated Press, which announced its league awards Wednesday.

Oher and Hardy, who were also voted first team All-SEC by the coaches, received top-team billing again. Jerry was named to the second team, and Green-Ellis was an honorable mention. All four Rebels were also chosen All-SEC by Rivals.com.

Oher, a junior offensive lineman, has been a consensus first team All-SEC selection this year and was a Mid-Season All-America first team pick by The Sporting News. He was a second team all-conference choice last season.

A sophomore defensive end and high school teammate of Oher in Memphis, Hardy is fifth in the nation in TFLs (18.0) and tied for sixth in sacks (10.0), in which he is also the SEC leader. He was listed as a First Team Freshman All-America a year ago.

Jerry is earning postseason honors for the first time in his career. The junior defensive tackle ranks fifth in the SEC in TFLs with 14.0. Jerry totaled 10.5 TFLs and 43 total tackles over the final eight games.

Green-Ellis took home AP hardware for the second straight year, having been a First Team All-SEC selection in 2006. The senior tailback turned in five 100-yard games and is fourth in the league in rushing at 94.8 yards per outing. He finished the season with 1,137 yards in becoming the second Rebel ever to reach the 1,000-yard mark in consecutive campaigns.

Florida's Tim Tebow was named SEC offensive player of the year, while LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey is the defensive player of the year. Mississippi State's Sylvester Croom picked up the coach of the year award, and Georgia running back Knowshon Moreno was selected as freshman of the year.

Tebow and Dorsey were among four unanimous picks to the All-SEC team, joined by Arkansas running back Darren McFadden and Kentucky tight end Jacob Tamme. No. 2 LSU, which won the conference championship, led the way with six players on the first team. But, in a season ruled by parity, all 12 schools were represented on the first team.
