Ole Miss Women's Golf Inks English Standout

11/21/2007 | Women's Golf

OXFORD, Miss. The Ole Miss women’s golf team added another talented player to the program, as Kirsty Rands of England signed a national letter of intent to join the Ole Miss women’s golf team beginning in the 2008-09 academic year, first-year head coach Michele Drinkard announced Wednesday.

Rands finished 34th in the British Ladies Amateur Strokeplay Championship.  She also took fifth in the English Ladies Amateur Strokeplay Championship.  In addition, Rands played for Surrey in the County Week and won the 2006 Surrey Girls Championship.

“We are very pleased Kirsty is joining our Ole Miss family,” Drinkard said.  “She brings maturity to our team and will give us depth to our roster.  Kirsty has already graduated from high school and is spending a year working with her instructor, playing in tournaments and working on her strength and conditioning.  I expect her to come in firing on all cylinders when she arrives in Oxford.”

Rands becomes the second signee of the fall for the Lady Rebels, joining Pace, Fla., native Haley Millsap, who signed last week.

The Lady Rebels will begin the spring season Feb. 22-24 at the Suntrust Lady Gator Invitational in Gainesville, Fla.
