Lady Rebels Finish Cougar Classic In 15th Place

CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Ole Miss women' golf team turned in their best performance of the 2005 Cougar Classic on Tuesday with a round of 306 for the final 18 holes in moving up to 15th place in the prestigious tournament held at the Yeaman's Hall Golf Club in Charleston, S.C. The Lady Rebels posted a three-round total of 925.
Senior Sarah Kate Cousart was the top individual finisher for Ole Miss as she tied for 25th place after posting 70-76-78--224. Freshman Dori Carter moved up to 56th place after finishing the first day in 63rd. Carter's carded a 76-80-76--232.
Junior Katie Davidson posted her best round of play on Tuesday, finishing with a 79-80-76--235, which tied her for 69th place. A pair of freshmen rounded out the scoring for Ole Miss as J.J. Flynn and Rachel Ingram finished in a tie for 76th place. Flynn posted a 82-76-80--238 for the tournament, while Ingram shot a 82-80-76--238.
Tennessee edged Georgia for the team title as the Lady Vols carded a final round of 289 and posted a three-round total of 870. Georgia was right behind with 872 strokes over the three rounds of play.
Marci Turner of Tennessee took home the top individual honors at the Cougar Classic by shooting a 73-72-67--212. Turner, who shot a tournament-record 67 in the final round, began the final day in a seventh place tie, three strokes behind teammate Nicole Smith. Turner shot 73 in the first round and a 72 in the second round to finish 4-under-par.
Georgia's Whitney Wade (71-72-72--215) was the only other participant to finish under par (-1).
Ole Miss will return to action on Sept. 18-20 when they travel to Tuscaloosa, Ala., for the UA/Ann Rhodes Intercollegiate.
